Tools and materials:
- Fabric
- Lining
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Pin
- Sewing machine
- Chalk
- Thread
- Shoelace or ribbon
1. Make the pattern
Fold your fabric in two, then take your waist measurement and take 1 inch off. Divide this measurement in two and mark it on your fabric.
From the top of the line, draw a straight line vertically.
Measure a 5½-inch width across from the first line and mark accordingly. Make another mark at the bottom, too.
Then, connect the 5½-inch marks and draw a straight line.
Extend the front line by one inch on either side.
Then, curve the edges as shown.
2. Cut the fabric
Now, cut the corset belt sewing pattern.
3. Duplicate the pattern
On a piece of lining fabric, trace the pattern and cut accordingly.
4. Assemble the DIY corset belt
Layer both fabric pieces right sides together and pin the longer edges, then sew to secure. Do not stitch the short ends yet.
Flip the corset to the right side through one of the openings on the side.
Fold the raw edges on the side inward, and press down. Also, press the whole piece for a cleaner finish.
5. Make the loops
Cut out some long strips, fold the raw edges inward, and sew to secure.
Now, cut the strips so each one measures around 2½ inches in length.
6. Attach the loops
Fold your corset piece so the short ends touch each other. Then, with a ruler, mark where you’d like to place the loops. Each loop has to be directly opposite to one another. Also, mark these in even increments.
Now, fold each strip into a loop, and sandwich it between the main fabric and lining layer. Pin the loops to secure them.
Sew a line across the short ends of the corset to secure the loops in place.
Finally, feed a shoelace or string through the loops in a criss-cross pattern.
