Accessories are having a HUGE moment right now. From scarves to hats to jewellery, accessories can elevate any outfit on any budget. So where do you stand? Are you an accessory hoarder or avoider?

The common fear or unknown I often get from clients with regard to accessorizing are:

“I like accessories but I never know what to buy!” or “How do I know when it’s too much? to

"I can’t seem to strike the right balance”. Can you relate?

Accessorizing for impact and upgrading an outfit takes some skill so here’s a quick lesson on 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞 an outfit so that it enhances rather than detracts from an outfit. Here’s an example of and outfit that follows these rules and reflects my style personality.

Remember your style personality will affect what accessories you might actually choose but the formula works no matter what your style personality is and it’s a great place to start if you want to incorporate accessories into your wardrobe in an effective way! Let me walk you through an easy outfit to show you how to build up and layer on accessories using my top tips.

Here are my Top 3 Tips to Accessorize for Impact:

1. Lines: Work with the lines in your outfit. Angular lines=more angular accessories whereas organic flowy lines=rounder accessories. The round hoops and bag above echo the organic lines and pattern of the skirt and creates visual cohesion to the eye.

2. Texture: Repeat a texture 2-3 times to create cohesion. This offers the eye a place to gently land a few times over the whole outfit and creates visual harmony which the eye finds pleasing. Here adding in the woven belt, the texture relates to the earrings and purse doing just that.

3. Colour: Repeat a colour 2-3 times. Anything more and it typically looks overdone or “matchy-matchy”. This is seen with the both the colour of the textured accessories and the bag as it connects to the skirt and shoes.

These tips are just some of the ways in which I help my clients shop with intention to build wardrobes they love! If you’re feeling inspired by this season’s accessories and are unsure where to start, try these tips so you can accessorize with confidence in A Styled State of Mind!

Enjoy!
