Winter is coming! With that in mind now is the perfect time to get started on a new DIY project. In this tutorial, I show you how to make and style an absolutely gorgeous blanket scarf. Keep warm and cozy this cold season with this winter essential! If you want to learn the ins and outs of making and styling this stunning piece, my tutorial is definitely for you! Not only will this scarf shield you from the cold, but it will also totally glam up your winter looks as well! Follow my simple, step-by-step guide and get started on making your own blanket scarf.
Before I could start this fun and easy DIY, I had to pick out the perfect fabric, I went to the store to look at different plaid, flannel fabrics and I chose a gorgeous brown and grey one. I bought two yards of fabric because I wanted to make sure I had enough for this project.
I love the frayed look so to make sure my scarf would have the style I wanted, I used my fingers to just pull at the threads and create the perfect frayed look around the edges. You can use scissors to help create a more frayed look. I thought the width of the material was exactly right for my blanket scarf but if you want to cut it and make it a little smaller you can.
With your blanket scarf ready, there are so many different ways to style it. First, you can simply wear it hanging over your shoulders adding a pop of color to a one-tone outfit. It definitely makes the perfect accessory.
If you are rocking a knit dress, wrap your blanket scarf around your neck to take the outfit to another level.
This third style is perfect for those extra chilly days! Pair any coat with your blanket scarf. Wrap and tie the scarf around your neck to stay snug.
Tie the two ends of your scarf together and wear it around your neck. I love wearing this style with a denim jacket! You can always double wrap it around your neck to keep a little warmer and create the infinity scarf style.
If you are just looking to add an extra layer to your outfit, wearing a blanket scarf as a shawl is the perfect trick.
For the last look, if you are wearing a cute sweater, it’s always fun to do a half wrap style and have the two ends hanging in the front and back.

how did you make the longer fringes? did you braid them or just twist them together?
