How to Wear Scarves Multiple Ways

In this style guide, I'm going to show you how you can wear a scarf in multiple ways and with different outfits. We're going to start by looking at how you can wear a scarf as a top. Wearing a scarf this way isn't such an obvious choice because scarves are usually regarded as fashion accessories, but, as you will see, it totally works.

Leopard print

First, I decided to go with a leopard print scarf that is super cute (and a bit feisty as well), and I've created a strapless top with it. All you have to do is fold the scarf in half and then tie it in the back. You can do this with any square scarf as long as it is big enough, and it will spice up any outfit.

Ruched

The next top is a little more complicated, but it's super cute, and you wouldn't know that it's a scarf because it looks like a top. What you need is a square scarf. You then tie one side of it at the top behind your neck and the other side around the bottom behind your waist. The scarf I'm wearing here was a little too small, and I couldn't tie it up, so instead, I attached it at the bottom with a safety pin. This way of wearing the scarf creates a nice ruched effect at the front, and I'm obsessed with it.

Boob tube

To achieve this look, simply wear a regular strapless bra and then tie the scarf on top and tuck it in at the bottom and the top so that the bra is covered up. As you can see, there is a gorgeous flowy tie down the front, which is an amazing bit of detail. This top is a bit revealing and might not be to everyone's taste, but if you are looking to show off a bit of cleavage, give it a go!

Bandana

Now that I've shown you three tops, we're going to move onto accessories. I'm going to show you how to tie a good bandana. What you need to do is take a square scarf and fold it in half. Then just bring it across your forehead and over your head and tie it in the back. This bandana look is pretty simple, and it looks even better when paired with a chunky pair of sunglasses.

Draped

Before I show you the next variation, don't forget about simply just draping a scarf over your shoulders. It always looks good like this, and it can add a lot of personality to your outfit.

Babushka baby

This next one is a bit of a babushka/Audrey Hepburn-inspired look. I can just imagine wearing this driving a convertible through empty country lanes. To create this look, take a square scarf and fold it in half. Put it on top of your head, then take the two front ends and tie them in the back. Sunglasses and a little bag make the whole look tie together perfectly.

Skinny scarf

This next look is a bit different because here, I'm using a skinny rectangular scarf. What you need to do is fold it in half lengthways twice. Next, bring some of your hair to the front and tuck the rest behind your ear. Then place the scarf over your head in-between these two sections of hair and tie the band under your hair. For those who aren't accustomed to wearing a scarf, this is a really easy and subtle look that isn't too overpowering.

Now that you’ve seen how to wear a scarf, all you need to do now is get yourself down to the shops and go buy some! Shopping for silk scarves is so much fun because there are so many gorgeous prints out there. Don’t overlook the versatility that scarves have; there is so much that you can do with them!
