Choose the fabric
To make this gorgeous wrap top I used a synthetic knit fabric that was fairly stretchy but firm. To get the pattern for this gorgeous top, click here.
Sew the front piece
To start off, lay the front pieces right sides together and sew. Sew with a straight stitch when close to the shoulders and then use a zig-zag stitch.
Add the ties
Move on to the ties and pin them onto the ends of the front, right sides together and sew with a straight stitch.
Then sew the bottom of the tie and the front in one shot. Start with a straight stitch and switch to a zig-zag stitch.
Trim off the corners of the tie and then turn it right side out. I recommend ironing it flat at this point.
Hem the back piece
Moving on to the back, hem the neckline. In this step, I like to use a basting stitch and then I fold over and sew with a zig-zag stitch. Also, hem the waist and then pull out the basting thread if you used that technique.
Sew the shoulder seams
When it comes to the shoulder seam, sandwich the back shoulder with the two layers of the front. Pin and sew a straight stitch.
Trim the excess fabric to get rid of any bulk and turn the fabric right side out.
Sew on the sleeves
Next, pin and sew on the sleeves.
Sew the sides
Moving on to the sides, one side will have a split. I chose to have the split on my right side. Start by finishing all the edges. Sew the side without the slit from the sleeve to the waist and for the other side, sew until you reach the slit. Then go ahead and finish the edges of the side without the slit.
Hem the sleeves
Then go ahead and hem the sleeves with a zig-zag stitch. Now that you have gone through all the steps, you may find that you run into a few issues with sizing. I have created a guide on how to adjust the pattern based on common issues that my testers had when making this top. To view this go to 7:04 in the video tutorial.
