How to layer clothing

The secret to layering is using thin fabrics that won't create bulk. Think of thin turtlenecks or t-shirts, preferably in a natural fiber that is soft on the skin.

Here, I’ve gone for a printed turtleneck underneath a black jumpsuit which adds a subtle touch of character. There is also black included in the pattern, so it really ties together seamlessly.

The second layer normally is a fitted shirt or a vest that just follows the natural curves without adding a lot of volume.

I like to play with the contrast of colors and even a little bit of pattern.

In this look, I’ve gone for a blazer in a similar color to the turtleneck for a coordinated finish.

I also highly recommend always adding a belt when you are creating a layered look, as this will cinch in your waist and define your proportions so that you don’t end up shapeless.

You can even throw a sweater on top of it all; it is a very Scandinavian way of layering.
