Looking for the perfect casual outfit topper? Sort through your wardrobe and stash and create one for free from items you already have around the house!

Here’s how to create a pretty throw-over-anything-vest from that boring button down you have lurking at the back of your closet.

Snag a button down blouse and some tulle or lace. (The textile area at thrift and charity shops are chock full of tablecloths and curtains and they are a great source of fabric.)

*I jazzed up my denim shirt with a soak in a bit of bleach before I started snipping and stitching.

Chop off the sleeves as close to the seams as possible.

Grab your scrap tulle (or lace) and place it over one side of the shirt. Pin it in place near the arm holes, shoulder hems, side seams and button placket.

Stitch on the fabric, carefully chop off the excess as close to the seams as possible and then repeat the whole process on the other side.

If your shirt has pockets, carefully stitch around them and cut out the tulle.

Your fabulous vest is now complete and you're ready to step out in awesome refashionista style!!
