Simple Cowl Scarf Tutorial

DSC08247 Cowl - Simple Tutorial 17

I have a shirt. It has seen me through nights at home for two pregnancies. It is not a pregnancy shirt, but it was nice and stretchy. It was a great shirt. But. It had run it's course.

A few months ago I saw a cute knit cowl in a store. They were so cute but a bit pricey.

So I decided I would turn my shirt into a cute cowl!

I love how it turned out! It is so cute, and it was so easy!

(Oh, and very little sewing was invloved! Seriously!)

Here is how to make this oh so simple cowl:

First you take a lovely stretchy knit shirt that has seen better days.

Then you cut it into two pieces like so. (I cut right below the arm line, then I cut off the hem, then I cut that one piece in half to make these two pieces.)

Next you place both pieces together and pin in a pleat. This was not an exact thing. I just made them all look similar in size and called it good!

Sew the pleat in.

I found a butterfly ring to use as a decorative touch, but you could also use a broach, a button...anything you like really. But I had a ring. I literally just took the fabric from the cowl and put it inside the ring part. Then I hand-stitched the butterfly in place.

Seriously. This is as easy as it comes folks.

And is just as cute as the $30 one I saw in the store! And this cost me next to nothing!

I think I might do this with an old Tee Shirt,,,,even just to wear around the house to keep warmer in these cold and "expensive" heating bills days.

    Great idea and looks cute.
