In this tutorial, I have a killer DIY hair serum to show you.

I’ve been bleaching my hair for about 15 years. I recently dyed it back to my natural color, and I’m trying to rejuvenate it to get back the health, shine, and beauty that my hair had before I started bleaching it.

Tools and materials:

  • Almond oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Dropper bottle
  • Spoons
  • Bowl
  • Essential oils (lavender and ylang-ylang)
Mixing oils

1. Mix oils together

Put two tablespoons of almond oil in a bowl. This oil is packed with vitamins, fatty acids, proteins, and antioxidants, so it's very replenishing for your hair.

Then add some jojoba oil - it adds tons and tons of moisture to your hair, but it also works as a reparative oil because it penetrates all the way into your hair. Mix the two together.

Adding essential oil

2. Add essential oil

Now, we're going to be going in with our essential oils, which are all very beneficial for the health of our hair.

First, add seven drops of lavender oil. This is going to add a lot of moisture and shine to your hair.

Then add seven drops of ylang-ylang - this is great for replenishing dry and damaged hair.

Transferring

3. Transfer to bottle

Transfer the mixture to a dropper bottle. Give the mixture a good shake to combine all the oils together.

Applying DIY serum to hair

4. Apply to hair

My hair is very thick, and I’m just using about 6 or 7 drops of the serum.

Rub it into the palms of your hands first. This will ensure that the serum will be dispersed evenly through your hair, and you won't end up with just one greasy spot.

Then rub it into your hair, mid to end. You don't want to apply this straight on your scalp or the root. Rub it in downwards to close the cuticle, so that’s also going to help the shine factor.

You don’t want to rub it in to and fro vigorously, as this will roughen up the cuticle layer and prevent it from looking shinier. Apply it to the other side of your hair as well.

The serum is so easy to make, and if you don’t have one of the ingredients, it’s okay, you can still go ahead and make it. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will give it a go for yourself.
