Wow, the summer has arrived with a vengeance here in the UK and I've got a lovely new dress to share, I'll show you all the steps and then style it two ways, I hope you're going to love it as much as I do!!!!

My pattern is the Indigo dress pattern by Tilly and the Buttons and you can find it here > INDIGO TOP or DRESS sewing pattern | Tilly and the Buttons

I chose this gorgeous cotton poplin in baby blue with white polka dots and you can grab it here > Minerva Core Range 100% Cotton Poplin Fabric | 1133931 | Minerva

The first step is constructing the bodice, here you can see I'm starting by joining the two back bodice pieces together at the shoulder seam.

Next lets add some bust darts, this will give us a super flattering fit!!

Now we're constructing the facings these will give us some structure to the neckline and the back button band.

Lets get those facings stitched on!!

Next, we're going to add some sleeves, the sleeve head is gathered before pinning and stitching into the armscye. Then the side seams are stitched together from the waist of the bodice up through the under arm and finishing at the end of the sleeve.

Lets move onto the skirt panels now, were going to gather the top edge of the skirt panels and the ruffle.

Then stitch them together and add to the bottom of the bodice!!

All done and I'm so pleased with my new dress, I'm styling it here with my shades and Havianas, perfect for a sunny summer day!!

I also love this styling, I'm ready for a chilly autumn or winter day here, wearing my hand knitted sweater and chunky boots. Which is your favourite styling??
