I just love fall plaids. Plaid is a great print for the fall season. I’m going to show you how to style plaid to create great outfits for fall.

Plaid blazer outfit

1. Plaid blazer

I started with styling a look for a plaid blazer. My plaid blazer is yellow and black and really reminds me of the movie Clueless.

I’m a big fan of blazers, especially for fall. They are just a great added layer piece.

Underneath the blazer, I put on a black high-neck sleeveless top. Choose a shirt that compliments the colors of your blazer.

I paired this look with some black jeans. I chose jeans with a relaxed fit to balance the look and dress down the blazer, for a more casual feel.

For shoes, I went with a pair of chunky loafers. I wanted this look to be preppy chic. I think the combination of the chunky shoes, relaxed-fit jeans, and the blazer gives it a preppy vibe with a modern twist.

To finish off the look I added a black bag with some gold detailing.

2. Plaid skirt

Now let’s discuss how to style a plaid skirt. The skirt I chose has an A-line maxi-length style.

The colors are very neutral in their tones with brown and tan. I am a big fan of neutral colors and earthy tones, especially for fall.

For the top, I opted for a long-sleeved, ribbed, tan-colored shirt. This shirt can go with just about anything, but it’s perfect with this skirt. I chose some nude ankle booties for shoes.

I didn’t want to go too heavy on accessories here. I wanted the plaid to be the focus of the look. I put on a nude colored headband with some pearl details.

A headpiece is a great way to accessorize an outfit if you want to go light on jewelry.

For a bag, I am carrying a nude tote.

Plaid lightweight outerwear

For this look, I opted to start with a black base. I combined a black short-sleeved shirt with some black jeans. I went for a pair of black over-the-knee boots. A black base will work well with my red plaid outerwear.

I accessorized the look with a gold necklace and gold hoop earrings. I put on a black belt with some gold detailing. A belt is a great way to accessorize your look.

My plaid outerwear is a “shaket”. A “shaket” is a mix between a shirt and a jacket. I love these kinds of thin jackets for the fall. It’s perfect for those fall days when it’s a bit chilly but not cold enough for a real jacket.

Lastly, I added a red bag to complement the red of the plaid.

4. Plaid heavy outerwear

For this look, I’m starting with the base of a pair of wide-leg blue jeans and a long-sleeved blue top that features some cut-out detailing.

For shoes, I went with a pair of denim, sling-back shoes. Once again I am going with a red plaid piece, but this is a heavier jacket.

I love that this jacket has a motorcycle jacket cut and design to it. The plaid mixed in with the blue and denim is a great combo. For the bag, I went with a small denim tote.

Fall plaid

I hope these looks inspire you to work with the plaids in your wardrobe to create perfect fall looks. There’s no need to go out and buy plaid pieces in the colors I used.

Use whatever you have at home and utilize the above strategies to help you combine your pieces in a way that works for you.
