Check Out This Mini Faux Fur Tote Bag
I am so obsessed with bags! I wanted to add a new tote bag to my collection since they are all the rage right now! Rather than go out and buy one for a pretty penny, I decided to DIY my own totally gorgeous, faux fur tote bag using an amazing zebra print fabric. This bag is so much fun and is completely functional as well. If you want to learn all the ins and outs of this incredible fashion DIY, my tutorial is definitely for you! Follow my simple and easy, step-by-step guide below, and get started on making your own faux fur tote bag.
Tools and materials:
- Faux fur fabric
- Lining fabric
- Scissors
- Seam ripper
- Sewing machine
- Pins
- Needle and thread
To get started on this amazing tote bag, cut a 12-inch by 12-inch piece of fur fabric. I chose this gorgeous faux zebra print but feel free to choose any fabric design you want.
Next, cut a 1-inch by 1-inch square from the bottom corners of the fabric.
Use this piece as a pattern to cut out the second piece of fabric.
With the two pieces facing right sides together, pin them in place. Then sew the side and bottom seams together.
Repeat the same steps for your lining fabric. I chose to use black fabric for my lining but feel free to choose any color fabric you like.
Now that you have sewed both your outer fabric and your lining, match the corner pieces of the small cut out square, and pin them together. Do this on both sides of the lining and outer fabric pieces.
Hop on over to your sewing machine and sew the corners of the two fabrics to create the perfect tote bag shape.
Turn the lining, the wrong side out, and have your outer fabric right side out. Insert the outer fabric in your lining.
To make sure this bag has a professional finish, line up the side seams before you pin the two pieces together.
To create the perfect straps for this gorgeous bag, cut 2 strips of the faux fur fabric 2-inches by 10-inches.
Then fold the strips of fabric over, right sides together, and pin and sew. Once you have sewed, turn the fabric right side out.
To attach these straps, pin them between the faux fur and lining layers. Once the straps are pinned in place, sew them on and while you're at it, sew around the whole edge of the bag to attach the lining to the fur.
Next, seam rip a hole in the lining only.
Then pull the bag through the hole to turn the entire piece right side out. Make sure to topstitch the hole closed afterward!
