Hey guys! I can’t wait to show you this heatless curls socks trick.

Using heat to curl your hair is time consuming and damaging to your hair. Overnight heatless curling is the way to go, but how do you make curls using socks? Let me show you.

Tools and materials:

  • Mousse
  • Comb
  • Socks
Applying hair mousse

Combing hair

1. Preparation

To prepare your hair for curling, start by applying mousse. Then comb your hair well.

Wrapping and curling

2. Wrap and curl

I use ankle socks because I find they are the perfect size.

Gather a section of your hair and start wrapping your hair around the sock with the toe part of the sock facing up.

Securing

3. Secure the coil by tucking through sock opening

Once you get your hair wrapped all the way around the sock, take the opening of the sock and close it over the curl.

You’re basically tucking the curl into the sock. Repeat this step around the entire head so that all of your hair is curled and tucked into the socks.

4. Overnight set

Leave the socks on your hair overnight to let the curls really set. When you wake up, you can open the socks and release your curls.

How gorgeous do these curls look? I love that I can achieve perfect curls without a curling iron or curlers. This is so creative.

When I coached cheer we used rags to curl for girls that didn’t have foam curlers. Very similar. When we did it we started with towel dried hair and used spray gel so it would hold better. If you want tighter curls use smaller sections of hair and if you are looking for a wavy look then use larger sections not rolled as tight. My best advice is to experiment a little and see what works for you. We also used a lot of hairspray in the morning. After the girls were dressed we’d take out the curls, don’t brush, use fingers to get hair where you want it! My daughter had hair down past her waist and it would stay up nice and short and curly. Sometimes it would get to just past her shoulders by the end of cheer competition.

Also if you want a ponytail or anything then do that before curling! Good luck!

When I was a young girl my grandmother would use “rags” (old torn bed sheets) and use them to curl my hair. She thought going to bed with wet hair was definitely a non-no. I recall she would use a damp brush and then wrap the hair and it was long before mousse, etc. The curls were so tight that they would last for days. And, commentator is right. Don’t brush them out, just use your fingers to loosen them.

    Thanks for the memories!
