Today, I am going to show you how to curl your hair overnight with socks. I have an older sock curling tutorial on my channel and it's very popular, but today I wanted to try again using a slightly different method: rag curls.

Rag curls have been used for centuries to curl women’s hair without using heat. I am always up for an overnight no heat curling hair method, so let's get started!

Tools and materials:

  • 4 socks
  • Spray bottle with water
Dividing hair into sections

1. Divide your hair

Divide your hair into four sections, with a split down the center.

2. Spray

Start with one section and spray your hair thoroughly. Go through your hair to make sure it is thoroughly damp.

3. Add the sock

Wrap your hair around the sock and roll it up all the way to your scalp. You should repeat steps two through four with each section.

4. Tie the sock

Tie the sock into a knot. You should repeat steps two through four with each section. Sleep with the socks in your hair overnight.

5. Take out the socks

Once you wake up your hair will have dried. Take out the socks from your hair and you will have these beautiful and thick bouncy curls!

Comb out the curls with your fingers to help loosen them and create a more cohesive look.

As you can see these curls are beautiful and thick. I expect them to fall slightly throughout the day and get a bit looser.

If you want you can set the curls with hair spray but I am going to skip this step because I am confident that these curls will stay throughout the day.

Next time, I think I will wrap the socks all the way up to my scalp so that the curls start from the root, rather than part way down my hair. However, overall, I'm really pleased with the results.

When I was little my aunt used to roll my hair in strips of rag material. In the morning it would be ringlets of curls.

My mom (may she rest in peace) when I was little about 50 years ago, my mom would take a paper bag and cut it up in strips to roll up her hair and then tie it. The method with the socks, just reminded me of her and how beautiful her hair would come out. Thanks for reminding me of this nice memory.
