To create my fall capsule wardrobe, I've selected 24 items that adhere to a neutral color palette: black, white, cream, and beige. I suggest you also choose fall wardrobe essentials that fit into a color palette, so it's easy to quickly pick out outfits that work.
Neutrals are the easiest to start with, so it's a great palette for beginners.
3 T-shirts
The perfect replacement for summer camis is basic shirts! They are so easy to style with just about anything. They also make the perfect transition from summer to fall since they are not so skin-bearing.
I include three simple t-shirts in my fall capsule wardrobe in black, white, and beige. You can pair a simple shirt with an elegant blazer or wear it underneath a leather jacket.
2 Blouses
I call these the hero pieces to my fall capsule wardrobe. I have two mock turtleneck blouses in my fall capsule wardrobe. They are so versatile to pair with almost anything.
Also, let’s not forget that they are functional and serve a purpose for keeping you warm during this transition period. You can easily style these beauties with jeans, a skirt, or even trousers.
2 Sweaters
Knit sweaters are fantastic for those cooler fall days where you need something thicker to keep you warm.
For my fall capsule wardrobe, I've included a white v-neck sweater and a tan-colored snuggly polo neck for cold weather.
2 Pairs of jeans
I picked two pairs of jeans for this season: blue mom jeans and skinny black jeans. You can opt for any color you want, but I think a light wash is truly classic. Plus, it's perfect for a warmer fall day or for brightening up a darker fall outfit.
Of course, black goes with almost anything - even a monochrome outfit.
3 Pairs of pants
I don’t know about you but transitioning to the fall season automatically means darker colors for me. So, you won't be surprised to learn that I have three pairs of pants in my fall capsule wardrobe and they are all black!
I have these leather cropped pants, which are super classy and go well for those occasions where you need to look a little more formal.
I have a cute pair of pants that are slightly flared and have slits at the bottom. These are great for a comfy or informal outfit.
I'm also wearing a pair of dress pants on the left, though you can only really see the top of them here. These are somewhere between formal and informal, so I have all events and occasions covered.
1 Skirt
A universal mini-skirt is a good fall wardrobe essentials item. It’s the perfect time to play around with the style, since you can wear tights underneath or simply pair it with a long trench coat for a stylish layered outfit.
If you follow my channel, you've likely seen this skirt a lot! I include it in my spring and summer capsule wardrobes too. It's so beautiful and versatile - I can wear it with almost anything!
2 Dresses
Sticking to the feminine style, here I have a beige knit dress. It's quite long, so I wear it with a belt to accentuate my waist. I also included a black crewneck dress that's a little shorter in my fall capsule wardrobe (not pictured).
Dresses are great to include in capsule wardrobes for those days when you're not sure what to wear or how to put an outfit together - it's a whole outfit in one.
Try to choose versatile dresses that can be dressed up or down. A good way to check is to test them out with different kinds of shoes -boots, heels, flats, sneakers etc.
2 Blazers
I picked two blazers as part of my fall capsule wardrobe. The first is a fitted black blazer, which brings class and elegance to any outfit.
The second blazer is in a cream color. It's also slightly longer and less fitted. The material is thinner and has more movement. So, these two different styles of blazer can create different silhouettes.
1 Trench coat
I feel that a good quality trench coat is a hero piece for a fall capsule wardrobe. It’s a real must-have as it gives any outfit that extra elegance and style. Again, it’s best to opt for a classic neutral color so that you can match it with other items seamlessly.
1 Pair of heeled boots
Moving onto shoes, heeled boots are a must when it comes to your fall capsule wardrobe checklist. They are so sophisticated, classy, and will blend really well with any outfit of choice.
You can wear them with jeans and a comfy knit sweater in the day or pair them with a more formal outfit for the evening.
2 Pairs of ballet flats
This might come as a surprise, but I love to wear ballet flats during fall. They work great with any outfit and give off a more casual vibe. It’s the perfect solution for the transitional period and great for when you’re on the move and need something comfy.
1 Pair of mules
If you want to add a chic and elegant touch to your fall outfits, then a pair of stunning nude mules will do the job effortlessly. Of course, these will not work well if it’s super cold or raining, but they are perfect for those warmer days.
1 Pair of sneakers
Want a more laidback look? Invest in some really good sneakers. I love my Adidas ones. They are super comfy and trendy and help create a well-rounded casual look.
1 Purse
You’ve probably seen this purse in my other fall wardrobe basics tutorial. This YSL purse is flawless, classic, and just so beautiful! I’m simply… in love with it!
