How To Hand Stich A Seem Hole

My daughter had a hole in the seem of her pajamas, and I realized this is a life skill everyone should need to know. No sewing machine, no problem. This is an easy hand-sew DIY You can see more of my crazy creations here

You'll need:

A needle

Thread

Scissors

Here is the hole in her pajamas, and the best part is it's right along the seam. This is one of the easiest types of holes to sew up because they are the most inconspicuous to find after repair.

The first thing you'll want to do is turn the clothing inside out, this is so that the seam will grab it from the inside rather than pucker out on the outside.

Choose a thread that matches and blends into your fabric, and thread your needle.

Pull the ends so that both ends match and the needle is halfway through, and tie the ends together with a knot. Trim off the excess thread.

Pinch the seam together, and push the needle through the seam catching both sides.

Pull the needle through and pull the tread tight to seal both sides of the seam. Loop the needle around, push it through the fabric, and repeat. Continue repeating this process until you have sewn up the enire hole.

When you get to the end, loop the thread around the needle, and pull the needle through. This will make a knot sealing the last stitch so it won't come undone.

You can see the hole is all patched here and it blends in nicely. Turn the clothing right side out and see how you can't even tell the hole was there.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to our tech obsessed children.

BTW: Seam , as in seamstress is the correct spelling.
