How to Make Reusable Face Cloths: Easy & Eco-Friendly DIY Cotton Pads
Do you want to pamper your face and help save the planet at the same time? Follow this tutorial to learn how to make reusable face cloths or cotton pads for cleaning your face.
It’s an eco-friendly way to repurpose unused hand towels, and the DIY reusable face cloth instructions are so simple to make. Let's get started!
Tools and materials:
- Repurposed hand towels
- Air-tight container
- Thread
- Sewing needle
- Scissors
- Marker
- Elastic cord
1. Cut out your reusable face cloths
Lay your hand towel out on a flat surface.
Using an airtight container, approximately the size you want your reusable face cloths to be, place the container on your hand towel and trace around the bottom of it with a marker.
Repeat tracing for as many reusable cloths as you want to make from your hand towel.
Cut out all of your marked tracings, cutting on the inside of the marker line so no marker remains on your reusable cloths.
2. Prepare your needle and thread
Using a spool of thread that matches your cloths, pull an arms-length of thread from the and cut it off of the spool.
Thread your sewing needle with the cut thread, pulling it all the way through so you have a doubled thread.
Grab both ends of the thread and tie them together in a double knot. Tie a third not on the double knot for extra security!
3. Attach elastic cord (optional)
Cut a piece of elastic cord to the width of your cloth about an inch below the edge. If the elastic cord is patterned, you can choose to have either the pattern or the plain side visible.
Now use your needle and thread to hand stitch both ends of the elastic cord to your cloth.
Sew each stitch from top to bottom, wrapping the thread around the needle cloth with each stitch. That will create a bit of a binding on the edge of the cloth, so the elastic doesn’t come loose.
Loop the thread around the needle twice on the last few stitches on each side. Cut the excess thread when the stitching is done.
How to make reusable face cloths
Once you have made all of your reusable cloths you can stack them in your airtight container.
You can use each cloth more than once. Just rinse the cloth clean between uses and use the elastic cord to hang it from a hook to dry.

Do your hand towels shed after being cut from the round template???
This was a good tutorial, but I use high quality microfiber cloths. They are good taking makeup off. I learned it from QVC shopping channel. Just another option.
