How to Stop Mascara From Smudging: Easy Makeup Tips & Tricks

Does your mascara smudge? If so, today I will be teaching you how to stop mascara from smudging.
Use these tips to stop your mascara from smudging around your eyes and also learn how best to remove smudges when they do happen. Let's get started!
Tools and materials:
- Thin mascara wand
- Mascara
- Translucent powder
- Makeup brushes
- Clean and dry spoolie brush
How to prevent smudging
Tip 1: The wand
Let’s talk about the wand. If you are going to be using a wider mascara wand, it is much harder to use in the corners of your eyes and on your lower lashes. You are much more likely to smudge the mascara when using a larger mascara wand.
If you have a thinner, leaner, and longer wand it is much easier to use it in the corners, upper lashes, and lower lashes.
Tip 2: Taking the wand out of the tube
When you are taking the wand out of the tube, make sure to bend the wand to the side a little so that there isn’t a large amount of product on one side of the wand.
This way you can use one side of the wand to apply the mascara and the other side to even out your lashes and remove any excess product.
Tip 3: Applying technique
When you apply the mascara bend your head backwards and wiggle the wand gently.
This will create more space between your lashes and eyelid, making it less likely that your wand will smudge onto your eyelid.
Sometimes I like to blink while I apply the mascara because this helps apply the mascara evenly and gives me more control.
Tip 4: Lower lash technique
For your lower lashes, apply translucent powder just underneath your lashes just before you apply the mascara
Squint your eyes while applying the mascara to your lower lashes.
This lifts your lashes away from your lower lid and gives you more control.
Make sure to coat every lash hair.
Wait for the mascara to dry, then dust off the powder.
As you can see, there are no mascara smudges, and the product coats the lashes very evenly.
How to remove mascara smudges
Tip 1: Smudges on the powder
If the mascara smudges onto the translucent powder that you applied earlier, wait for the smudges to dry and then dust off the powder using a makeup brush.
There still will be a very faint stain that can easily be covered up by concealer.
Tip 2: How to remove a smudge
If you are not following my earlier tips and end up smudging your mascara, do not use a q-tip! This will make it even worse! Especially if you have your base makeup on already.
Instead, wait for it to dry, and then use a clean dry spoolie brush to gently scrape off the smudging. It scrapes off very easily.
