How to Cut & Distress Jean Shorts, Ready for the Summer
In today’s tutorial. I’m going to show you how to distress jean shorts. I have these old jeans that I wanted to distress and make into Bermuda shorts for the summer, so stick around if you want to know how to distress shorts. Let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Pair of jeans
- Seam ripper
- Grater
- Scissors
- Iron
- Fray check
1. Use the grater to wear your jeans
Use the grater to rub some wear into your jeans. I decided to keep the jeans on, so I would know exactly where to put my distressed areas. Don’t worry; it’s not going to even get close to your skin.
2. Remove the blue parts of the jean
Use the seam ripper to remove all the blue strands of fabric but leave all of the white strands.
3. Cut your jeans to the desired length
Once you have the desired look, all you have to do now is to get the desired length. So I cut the pants off at the knee because I didn’t want them too high above the knee.
4. Fold and iron
Fold the jeans over. I recommend doing this before cutting the second leg to ensure the two sides are the same side. and iron them so the folds are nicely flat and creased.
5. Apply fray check
The last thing to do is use some fray check. This stops the fraying of the fabric. I did this because I didn’t want my rips and tears to go too far, and I wanted it to stay this desired look.
The more you wash it, of course, the more it’s going to rip but with the fray check, it won’t go past a certain point.
