I adore the vintage patterns and art on ceramics of time gone by. To reuse and upcycle these is a great way to preserve them and give extended life now they are not used in our homes any more.

Old crockery

I can make cutting easier to do with wheeled tile nippers as the cut right through with just a few clicks. I recommend protection of your eyes with safety goggles.

Wheeled tile nippers

I shape the piece I like to create a brooch with .

Sanding

I use mini rotary sanding tool which has a carbide grinding stone on it ready to smooth edges and shape the china easily.

the back of the ceramic brooch needs sanding too. I find it helps the brooch pin glue firmly onto a rougher surface. The pin may come off too easily if not prepared adequately first.

Sanding the back of brooch

Next step is to glue the pin onto back. I use two part epoxy resin. Easily mix two pea size blobs one of each and mix thoroughly.

Mix epoxy resin

Spread glue evenly onto the centre back of brooch in place where sanded and also onto the pin and place firmly in the place you want it. The pin is usually set firm within 10 mins.

The piece is so lovely and ready to wear proudly .
