In this tutorial, I'll show you how to put real flowers in resin earrings. I like to use real flowers for my resin earrings because I think it really captures the true beauty of mother nature. Follow along with this tutorial to learn about preserving dried flowers and then how to make resin earrings with flowers.

Tools and materials:

  • Flowers
  • Resin earring mold
  • Jewelry kit with jump rings and earring hooks
  • Pliers
  • Resin
  • Book
  • Paper towel
  • Big tweezers
  • Gold foil
  • Straw or tweed
  • Gloves
Selecting flowers to preserve in resin

1. Find small flowers

First, go on a lovely hike or walk in the outdoors. Who wouldn’t like some fresh, natural air, anyway? Pick the flowers you like the most.

Remember, size is important. If you pick flowers that are way too big to fit in your resin earrings, you may just defeat the purpose. So, be sure they are a relevant size. Here, I chose some lovely yellow, dainty flowers.

2. Start the pressing process

I am doing a manual press to preserve the flowers, which takes a couple of months. Open a paper towel and insert each flower in between. Then, cover the flowers with the other folded half of the paper towel.

Pressing the flowers in a book

Take a medium-sized book and press it on the paper towel, as shown.

Now, open the book in the middle, insert the paper towel, where the flowers are sandwiched inside, and press.

3. Press the flowers in a book

This is probably a long wait, but you’ll need to wait at least 3-4 months before you can use these flowers for your resin earrings. As you can see, they look like paintings! I love how they turned out, don’t you?

4. Preserve the dried flowers in resin

Now it’s time to make the resin earrings! Carefully place each flower in the shape of your choice on the silicone mold. Use tweezers for this, as the flowers are so delicate.

Cutting pieces of straw

Then, take some straw and cut small strips, as shown.

Using tweezers, carefully place the straw around the flower.

Adding gold leaf to the resin earrings

Add a little gold for extra sparkle.

Cover the dried flowers with liquid resin

Squeeze a good amount of resin, just enough to cover the shape.

Pushing the resin earrings out of the molds

Wait 24 hours for the resin to set and dry before you can take it out.

These DIY resin earrings have holes already

As you can see, these resin molds are great because they have pre-made holes for the earring loops and jump rings- that means no drilling involved!

5. Add jump rings and earring hooks

Using pliers, open the jump ring, loop it through the hole, and add an earring hook. Next, close the jump ring tightly, ensuring there are no gaps.

Brilliant idea, have you thought about microwaving the flowers and then maybe putting the flowers in the book for a short time?
