I was given some broken ceramic cups mugs and this piece was too good to not make some unique jewellery from.

Old broken mug

I begin to crack it into pieces using wheeled tile nippers and always wear protective eye goggles.

Breaking mug

I love the pastel striped pieces and begin to shape some china with the wheeled tile nippers. I quite like that they are irregular pieces as they add charm and character.

Sanding

Using a hand held rotary drill with a sanding wheel attachment I can easily smooth the edges of the pieces and so they are ready to have drilled holes.

Drill hole

It takes time to drill through the ceramic and I use a diamond tipped drill piece.

When it’s ready to have the ear hooks and jump rings in I like to use round nosed pliers to secure the silver rings . These make the jobs east and can punch securely tight.

Round nosed pliers

Feed the jump ring through holes and squeeze tight with pliers. Add into the hoop the sterling silver ear hooks and in a few minutes your earrings are ready to wear.

Add a jump ring using pliers

An original pair of pastel dangle earrings up-cycled from broken ceramic mug! So unique and quirky !
