As part of eco friendly jewellery creations, when I was given a broken mug thought it was too amazing to discard without salvaging some great design pieces from it.

I start to cut into it with wheeled tile nippers. These are great to make ceramic cutting easier and a must to wear goggles always to protect eyes.

I find some interesting planet round shapes and begin to nibble cutters to shape them.

I keep cutting around shape to create a pair that seem to match and similar style.

Next is to use a mini rotary hand sander and it smooths edges easily and shapes the pieces quickly.

Next it’s time to drill some holes into the ceramic and I use a diamond tipped attachment to slowly drill into the china to make the hole for the fixings.

Assembling the earrings is easy when you use a round nosed pair of pliers. I use silver jump rings and attach the ear hooks to these. The pliers make it easy to squeeze the fixings together and secure.

Feed the jump rings through holes slowly using pliers and I prefer to use sterling silver ear hooks to prevent ear irritation.

How beautiful they turned out!
