How to Make a Pair of Lovely Earrings by Using Recycled Crockery
I love old vintage ceramic crockery and often a keepsake piece is such a nice gift especially to family. It often is some design ceramic tableware that was around from your childhood. It really brings back those memories from grandmothers home cooked dinners perhaps!
in an old box of china crockery I was given it really was a treat to delve into and think about how I could begin creating memory wear for my family.
It’s hard to choose but I find a few options and begin cutting a few vintage blue plates using wheeled tile nippers which really make cutting through ceramic dishes easy work.
Remember to wear protective eye goggles when cutting to prevent any splinters going in your eyes.
I keep cutting the ceramic until I get some nice pieces that look like small enough to shape into a pair of earrings. Sometimes it’s a nibbling action gently reducing the size down to desired shape. I choose square shaped earrings this time and find a matching design I like.
Next it’s time to smooth sanding the edges to create a nice even finish. I use a mini hand drill with a carbide stone attachment and wear a face mask to prevent lots of dust inhalation.
Next I drill some holes for the jump rings to fit into and change to an attachment drill with diamond tip to go through the ceramic hard surface.
i dip in to water to keep tip from burning. It takes patience and care but eve tidally the holes are done.
Then it’s time to assemble with round nosed pliers to thread the metal jump rings through holes and pinch tight to make sure they are secure. I like to use the sterling silver ear hooks which just easily slide onto ring and again pinch tight with the pliers.
I am so thrilled with the lovely blue square earrings that really bring back childhood memories too.

I love these
Yes, I will try making these. I’ve been saving pieces of crockery for years for a mosaic.
