Learn how to make lemon bath bombs with lemon essential oil. These citrus bath bombs smell amazing, and they help promote clearer skin.

Lemon essential oil can be phototoxic, which means it can react with the UV lights from the sun and lead to burns. I recommend rinsing after using this bath bomb and using sunscreen for 24 hours after using.

You will need:

Start by combining 2 tablespoons Epsom salts and 1/2 teaspoon white mica in a small bowl. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, add the baking soda, citric acid, kaolin clay, and cornstarch. Stir well.

Melt and coconut oil and shea butter in the microwave 30 seconds at a time. Then slowly pour the melted butters and the polysorbate 80 over the dry ingredients.

Add the essential oils and yellow mica. Stir well. Spray with rubbing alcohol if needed. It should hold its shape when squeezed with a gloved hand.

Place some of the white Epsom salts in the bottom of one half of the bath bomb mold.

Then slightly overfill both sides of the mold with yellow mix. Press the two halves together and press firmly. Twist slight. Tap the mold gently to release the bath bomb. Let sit for 24 hours to dry.

You can store your lemon bath bombs for up to 6 months in an airtight container.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 1 cup citric acid
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salts
  • 1/4 cup kaolin clay
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon polysorbate 80 (this is an emulsifier so the mica doesn't leave a ring on your tub)
  • White mica
  • Yellow mica
  • 15 drops lemon essential oil
Instructions

Melt the coconut oil and shea butter in a microwave safe container in 30 second bursts until melted. We will use them both at the same time, so you can melt them in the same bowl.
In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons Epsom salt and 1/2 teaspoon white mica. Stir to combine.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the baking soda, citric acid, kaolin clay, and cornstarch. Mix well.
Slowly add the melted coconut oil and shea butter and the polysorbate 80. Stir as you add them.
Mix the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients well. Use gloved hands to break up any clumps. It should hold its shape when you grab a handful and squeeze.
Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of yellow mica. Stir well. Add more mica if desired. Then stir in the lemon essential oil.
Add a bit of the white Epsom salts to one side of the bath bomb mold. Then fill with the yellow bath bomb mixture and slightly overfill. Then use yellow bath bomb mixture to overfill the other half of the mold.
Working over a bowl, press the two halves together and press firmly. Then gently but firmly twist slightly to remove extra mixture. Tap the mold gently to release the bath bomb. Repeat until you don't have any mixture left.
Let the DIY lemon bath bombs dry for 24 hours. They should be hard to the touch. Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
