For this low bun updo tutorial, I’m going to show you an easy way to do a low bun updo. I got this inspiration from TikTok, and I decided to try it myself. It looks so beautiful and chic, and it’s really simple to create.

This easy low bun updo should work for most hair types, although I think it may not work so well for all the ladies who are blessed with thick locks. Are you ready to learn how to do a low bun updo? Let’s get styling!

Tools and materials:

  • Hair elastic
  • Hair tie
  • Brush
Tying hair into a ponytail

1. Do a regular ponytail

So, for this low bun updo, start by doing a regular ponytail, as shown.

Pulling hair into a bun

2. Make a bun

Pull all of your hair through once and twice, on the third time, pull your hair, but not all the way through. You want to create a messy bun.

Keeping the ends hanging out

You should have your ends hanging out as I do.

Pulling the hair tie down

3. Create the easy low bun updo

Now, pull your hair tie down by about an inch.

Creating an opening in the hair

Next, create an opening right above your hair tie, as if you’re going to be doing a topsy tail.

Flipping hair through the bun

Flip your bun, and the ends up through that hole you just created.

Tucking the hair ends into the opening

The trick here is not to pull it all the way through; simply tuck it in, as shown. Make sure all the ends are tucked in, too. There should be no loose ends or strands sticking out.

Now, grab your favorite hair tie and place it around the bun. Make sure to hold both sides while placing the hair tie in place.

If you have any gaps in your bun, you can cover them with your hair. Placement is key!

Also, if you have ends sticking up at the top, you can stick them back in.

You can always pull and pinch some hair to give the low bun updo some texture or if you want a messier look, pull out more strands. If you want it to look chic and sleek, then add hair gel.
