How to Tie a Trench Coat Belt

1 Minute
Easy

It’s trench coat season, so it’s time for a little refresher course in how to tie the belt.

There are lots of ways you can tie a trench coat belt. This is a simple method to get you started. It’s very similar to the way you’d knot a tie.

Hanging the coat

1. Hang the coat

It’s much easier to do this when you’re not wearing the coat.

Hang it up with the back of the coat towards you.

Arranging belt

2. Arrange the belt

Place your belt through the loops, leaving one side longer than the other.

If your belt has a buckle, make this end the longer side.

Crossing belt

3. Cross and wrap

Take the longer end and cross it over the shorter side.

Wrapping belt

Continue wrapping it all the way around the shorter piece to create a loop.

Looping belt

4. Loop

Pick up the longer side again, bring it up through the middle behind the loop.

Feed the end through the loop and tighten it.

There you go! Your belt is neatly knotted and won’t come undone. Your coat is flatteringly narrow at the back and not all bunched up. And it took you less than a minute to do.
