Hey guys! If you’re looking for some pool day hairstyles I have a great one to share with you.

This Dutch braids hairstyle is the perfect easy pool day hairstyle. It will keep your hair back, and out of your face and prevent unwanted tangling that can come from loose hair in the water.

If you’re making Dutch braids on short hair you may need some bobby pins so make sure you keep some on hand.

Tools and materials:

  • Hair elastics
  • Bobby pins
  • Comb/brush (optional)
  • Hairspray (optional)
Parting hair

1. Part

Part your hair down the middle. Then clip one half up to keep it out of the way.

2. Braid

Take a small section of hair from the top of your head by your forehead and split it into three equal sections.

To make a Dutch braid you’re going to do the opposite of a regular braid.

Instead of moving the side sections in and under, you’re going to move the middle section out and over.

As you go, take small sections of the loose hair and add them to the outer strands.

3. Adjust as you go

Once you get about halfway back you will need to move your arms from the front to the back of your head.

You can do this by slowly moving one arm while holding the braid in place with the other.

4. Finishing touches

When you get to the bottom of the braid, tie it off with a hair elastic.

If you have short hair or layers like me you might have little strands of hair poking out here and there.

Adding bobby pins

To smooth these sections out, take some bobby pins and use them to push those strands back into the braid.

Try and push the bobby pins underneath the braid so they’re not visible.

Repeat all these steps on the other side. Try your best to position the braid evenly with the opposite side.

Pulling hair

After you finish you can pull out a few wisps of hair to soften the look.

Adding volume to braids

You can also use your fingers to tug at the edges of the braids a bit.

This will loosen up the look and create some volume. If your hair is shorter like mine, only do this in the front.

Doing it closer to the bottom where your hair is shorter may cause you to pull your hair out of the braids.
