Make These Gorgeous Lace-Up Shoes & Top With a Few Materials

Lace-up shoes, lace-up top, lace-up everything! Adding some lace to your clothing and shoes gives your items a totally different vibe. If you have anything mundane lying around, why not transform it into something unique and trendy? I’m going to give you 2 quick and easy DIY hacks on making lace-up shoes and a basic top. It’s fun and super simple. Get your lace out, and let’s get this show on the road!
DIY 1- Lace-up top
Tools and materials:
- An old top
- Fabric scissors
- Thin elastic
- Ruler
- Marking pencil
- Seam Gauge
- Sewing machine
- Needle
- Matching thread
Determine your desired length
Before starting the project itself, it’s a good idea to determine how long you’d like your cut on the front part of your top to be. This will give you a ballpark on the measurements, too.
Measure and cut
With a ruler and chalk, measure the desired length and draw a line in the middle.
Next, grab an old magazine and slide it under the top’s first layer. This will prevent you from cutting the second layer. Take a pair of scissors and cut through the line you just drew.
Hem the raw edges
Fold the edges of the slit and pin all around. Next, topstitch the edges so that you’ll have a lovely, finished look.
Mark the points for the loops
Using chalk or a pencil, measure the location of the loops on each side. It’s easier to do this with a seam gauge as pictured above.
Hand sew the loops
Using a thin elastic, measure and make loops for each side that you marked. Cut each elastic accordingly, then loop them, and hand sew it in place. Use a needle and matching thread. In this case, I just used black thread as that’s as far as I can go for this color.
Lace it up, baby!
Yay, you’re almost done! Now get some lace and insert it through the bottom loops. Make sure that the ends sit evenly on either side. Use a zigzag cross when lacing up your top.
Look at that! So sexy, so unique, so chic! You are now ready to rock it, girl! It gives the top an edgier and promiscuous vibe, and I think it just looks incredible!
DIY 2- Lace-up shoes
Tools and Materials:
- Flat pumps
- Dye-press
- Leather hand punch
- Seam Gauge
- Marking pencil
- Suede Cord
Mark the holes on your shoes
With a pencil and seam gauge, mark the holes on either side of the pump.
Punch the holes
Using a leather hand punch, punch your holes on all the markings. Press firmly and wriggle the leather hand punch a little so that the punched hole comes out.
Lace up your shoes
Take your leather suede cord and match the ends. Put both ends through the top hole and loop it through the looped end, thus creating a tidy knot.
Use a criss-cross pattern and feed through the cord towards the bottom of the shoe, and through each hole on either side.
When wearing your shoes, tie the remaining cod around your ankles.
The result is absolutely funky and stylish! Lace-up shoes really add another dimension to an overall monotonic shoe. I absolutely love these and can’t wait to rock these around town.
There you have it, a double DIY that’s all about lace-up items. From the stunning black lace-up shoes to the lovely lace-up top, you really can’t go wrong with this look. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial; simple, quick, and effortless.

Hi Raylene, add wide width grosgrain or similar ribbon or even fabric to the ends of the shoe laces so that you can tie a beautiful bow :). Love the lace look on the shoe.
No for the top, be modest ladies. No need to put yourself on display.
shoes are cute though.
