Easy

Double the waistband, double the fun. I love this cute take on a denim miniskirt and knew it would be easy to replicate.

Tools and materials:

  • 2 pairs of thrifted jeans
  • Scissors
  • Seam ripper
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine
Jeans

1. Jeans

You need 2 pairs of old or thrifted jeans, one that fits around your waist and another larger pair that fits the top of your hips.

Cutting jeans

2. Cut

Fold the jeans in half lengthways and cut off the legs just below the crotch.

Cutting jeans

Open the crotch seam with a seam ripper.

Repeat with the other pair.

Front flap

3. Front flap

Fold the front flap over and pin it down to hide the raw edges.

Measuring

4. Try on

Try the two skirts on together and decide on the best waistband thickness for your body.

I chose a 3 inch difference between the two waistbands.

Pinning

5. Pin

Pin the two pairs of jeans together at the correct depth.

Sewing

6. Sew

Sew them together around the top edge of the lower waistband.

Join the back and front crotch seams.

I used a sewing machine but you could even hand sew these if you wanted.

Sewing

I wanted to add a little extra so I seam ripped the back pocket from the first pair and added it to the front of the outer pair.

I love how this turned out. You can trim away the excess from the inner skirt to make it less bulky, or just wear it as it is.
