I love the Free People Slip skirt but it’s a bit pricey!

I’m going to recreate something similar to save some money, so follow along to make this Free People dupe skirt with me.

Tools and materials:

  • Asymmetrical lace curtains
  • Elastic band
  • Sewing machine and thread
  • Straight pins
Lining up the curtains

1. Line up the curtains

I thrifted 2 asymmetrical, triangular lace curtains.

Start by lining them up to copy the overlapping fabrics of the original Free People skirt.

Sewing fabrics together

2. Sew fabrics together and add an elastic waistband

Sew the casing for an elastic waistband.

Then, sew down the vertical to close the fabrics into a skirt while leaving a large slit.

This work took maybe 25 minutes tops.

This DIY skirt works great with a lace bustier.

Since we used elastic in the waistband, you can adjust the rise.

Style with contrasting blacks for an edgier look:

This DIY lace skirt is by no means an exact replica of the Free People skirt, but it looks cute and I saved about $80!
