I have two words for you: sneaker corset.

In this DIY, we’re going to take a pair of sneakers and transform it into a super trendy corset.

Sounds fun, right? It is! Follow along to find out how to turn a pair of shoes into a corset you can wear.

Tools and materials:

  • Converse sneakers
  • Craft knife
  • Kitchen scissors
  • Clips
  • Sewing machine
  • Grommets
  • Grommet press
Marking sneakers

1. Cut along bottom

Start by cutting along the bottom of the fabric part of the sneakers with a craft knife in order to remove the sole.

Cutting

Use kitchen scissors to cut the front rubber section.

Progress shot

You will be left with two parts of the shoes that look like this.

Cutting

2. Cut back part

Now, cut along the back of one of the shoes to open it up.

Cutting

3. Cut other shoe

Then, proceed to cut the other shoe along the back and the front to divide it into two pieces.

Clipping sneakers together

4. Clip together

Clip all the pieces together along the sides so that it will look like this.

Sewing

5. Sew

Proceed to sew along where you’ve clipped.

Top stitch the fabric to make it all nice and neat, though don’t worry if it doesn’t look perfect as the material is thick, so can be a bit tricky to work with.

Adding grommets

6. Add grommets

Proceed to add a grommet to either side of the corset at the top.

Lacing up corset

7. Lace up corset

The last step is to lace up the corset with the original shoelaces plus any other laces that you might need to hold everything in place.
