Creative Ways I Upcycled "free Stuff"

Time for another upcycling project, this time using clothing I got for FREE! 🙂 “Upcycling” or “refashioning” old clothing is a fun way to flex your creative muscles and create “new” clothing for little (or no) cost! Not only is this good for your wallet, but it’s a great way to recycle clothing that might otherwise go to waste. How did I get this clothing for free? Well, it seems like a lot of people have been doing serious closet/garage/attic cleaning lately! Folks in my neighborhood often put their unwanted items out on the curb with “free” signs. Being the creative/cheap crafter that I am, I have been hunting through these free piles for new project materials! Today’s tutorial shows how I transformed three such items into “new” clothes for fall! Here are a few before-and-after pictures…

I started off with an easy project- natural fiber clothing is just begging to be tie dyed!

Voila! Darker fall colors and tie dye texture!

I couldn’t pass up these worn but comfy sweatpants.

There was no way I could wear them as is, so I changed them into…

I love me a comfy sweatshirt, but this one was just too big! Time for a transformation! (I got inspiration from this blog post!)

You can see the step-by-step transformations of all four pieces in this video! (Although, my tie dye tips can be found in this video.)

Of course, I had to test out my new clothes right away!

Comfy!

Pockets!!

Cozy!

This project was very rewarding and earned me some “new,” comfy clothes for fall! I’m definitely on the hunt for more upcycling projects, though…. Be sure to follow us and our YouTube channel for more projects coming soon! 🙂 Stay crafty, Everyone!
