Dress Too Short? NO WORRIES!
I'm always trying to save my clothes from going to landfill, and I've even started trying to save my friends' clothes from going to landfill!
So, when a friend gave me a pile of clothes she no longer wears, I was determined to turn into something that I would. One dress in particular stood out because it was super cute and in great condition, but it was WAY too short...
Maybe you found a dress in a second-hand store that you like but are worried it's too short, or you're in a similar situation as me and were given one by a friend.
Well, not too worry, there's a cute way to turn the dress into a more wearable top and bottom.
Here's how...
STEP ONE:
Cut a straight line across the top just below the arm hole, creating two separate pieces; a top and a skirt.
STEP TWO:
Fold down the top of the skirt and straight-stitch, backstitch by hand, or fabric glue the edge down (inwards) almost all the way around, leaving a 1-inch gap and creating a tunnel.
STEP THREE:
Fold up the bottom of the top and straight-stitch, backstitch by hand, or fabric glue the edge down (inwards) almost all the way around, leaving a 1-inch gap and creating a tunnel.
STEP FOUR:
Using safety pins, put the elastic strip through one opening of the gap and push it all the way through the tunnel until it comes out the other end. Stitch the edges of the elastic together ensuring the elastic isn't twisted. Do this step for both the top and the skirt.
STEP FIVE:
Close the gap.
STEP SIX:
Go out and rock your new look!
