Let’s do something different with a stretchy short sleeved top.

I’ve worn this purple one a lot and I want to bring it up to date without spending much time or money.

Tools and materials:

  • Short sleeve stretchy top
  • 2 Safety pins
  • Elastic cord
  • Elastic stopper (optional)
Top to upcycle

Knotting top

1. Knot

The first thing you’re going to do is tie the sleeves behind your neck in a knot.

The tighter you can make the knot, the flatter and better it will look.

Safety pin

2. Safety pins

Now you’re going to take two safety pins and use them to make loops either side of the top.

Making loops

3. Loops

Push the point of the pin into the lower edge of the top in one corner, from the inside. Take it back through the upper edge of the corner. Fasten it on the inside.

Repeat on the other side.

Adding elastic

4. Elastic

Take a long piece of elastic cord.

Thread each end through one of the safety pin loops and bring the ends to the middle of your back.

Tying off elastic

5. Tie off

Now you can either tie the ends into a bow in the center of your back.

Adding stopper

Or put the ends through an elastic stopper and slide it towards your back.

This is a creative way to get more use out of some of the clothes in your wardrobe.

It also gives you a way to bring some of your more vintage pieces up to date.
