Grab a $7 Towel From Walmart and Use an Old T-shirt as Your Pattern

Towels come in so many great patterns, it’s time to start using them differently!


Grab a $7 towel from Walmart, and an old t-shirt from your closet, and make something brand new for summer.

Tools and materials:

  • Clearance towel
  • Old t-shirt
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing thread
Creating pattern

1. Create your pattern

Fold your towel in half, and lay your old t-shirt on top, with the top of the t-shirt at the fold in the towel. 


Fold the sleeves of your t-shirt under, out of the way.

2. Cut out your pattern

Cut the outline of your t-shirt, without the sleeves, from your towel.

Cut out the neckline.

3. Sew your towel vest

With the right sides of your towel facing in, sew the side seams of your towel vest.


Sew the shoulder seams as well, if the pieces have separated.

4. Add decorative touches to your vest

If your towel had fringes, cut them off the towel and sew them on the inside front edges of your vest!

Use extra pieces from your towel to make pockets. Consider using the other side of your towel, if your towel was reversible.
