Recycle an Old Purse Into Your Next Favorite Corset Top
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to recycle an old purse into a DIY corset top! Let’s get started.
Upstyle Recommends!
Tools and materials:
- Old purse
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Seam ripper
- Ribbon
1. Unseam
Use a seam ripper to remove the stitches holding the purse to separate the front and back panels.
2. Trace the pattern onto the purse
Pin a top you like to one of the purse panels and trace around it with a pencil.
Repeat this with the other side of the top and the other purse panel.
Since we’re making a corset, you’ll want five parts: A front panel, two for the sides, and two for the back where the corset will lace up.
3. Cut out the pattern
Cut out the traced pattern from both panels. Also, cut out 10 thin strips from the purse to make our loops.
4. Sew
Sew each of the parts of the pattern together.
5. Add loops
Sew the strips you cut out into loops on each side of the top with five on each side.
6. Add the ribbon
Lace the ribbon through each of the loops, and you’re done!
