Add the sequin fabric

To kick off this mermaid-inspired DIY, I turned my denim jacket inside out. I chose to use the most amazing green and black sequin fabric to create a mermaid aesthetic. I cut pieces from the sequin fabric that would cover the rips and holes in my jacket.

Once I had cut the perfectly sized piece, I pinned the fabric in place behind the rip or hole. I made sure that the colorful, pretty side of the fabric was facing downwards in this step. Once the fabric piece was in the perfect position, I hand sewed it in place.

Add beads

To add a little more glam to the jacket, I hand sewed beads onto the denim. The beads were in the same color scheme as the gorgeous sequin fabric which definitely added to the mermaid-inspired style of the piece.

This is great to pull a old jacket out and start using it again. I plan on updating my jacket using the sequin small shape pillows I purchased at Hobby Lobby for my granddaughter. She no longer plays with them. Having the few bags of beads left over from bracelets made. I’ll send photo once I complete the jacket. Great idea!

As soon as I get back home I plan on starting on the jacket. Loved the jacket but it hasn’t gotten much use over the last year. I started wearing a leather one. I like the idea of sewing in fabric over the worn areas. One of a kind jacket which I like.
