Decide on the position

Decide where you'd like to layout your message. I opted to do so on my jeans' back bottom side, just where my ankle sits. I measured a half-inch above the ends.

How to make DIY jeans

Mark your letters

Take the first two letters and lay them onto the bottom of the jeans. Punch out the stencil area, as shown. My first two letters are O and H, and as you can see, I needed the circle of the inner O. So, I made sure not to discard it.

Easy DIY jeans

Line them up on your jeans, making sure they are nice and straight. Next, fill in the letters using a sharpie. Fill it in, making sure the letters are visible.

Basic DIY jeans

For the other leg, I will use the letters H, E, and L. I will use the L again for the next letter, so that's why I am starting with just three. Repeat the same step, making sure the letters will be lining up evenly across the jeans' ankle section.

DIY embroidered jeans

Place the next two letters, and fill in the letters.

TIP-

If you can't find cardboard stencils like mine, you can trace around a letter sticker.

Embroidery time!

Feed your embroidery thread through your needle and sew a knot at the end.

Stitch the letters

Using your embroidery thread, stitch over the top, using the letters as a guide.

Pull the jeans tightly

Pull the jean very tightly while stitching to avoid any bunched-up fabric.

Knot and cut off the thread

When you are done with a letter, cut off the thread on the jean's bottom backside and tie a tight knot.

Sit in a comfortable position

Get in a comfy chair, put on some music or a cool podcast and start stitching- this may take a little while. Don't be discouraged by the time though, the process in itself is super fun! It took me about an hour to finish everything, but it was really therapeutic and fun!

Embroidered DIY jeans with letters

Oh Hello! How sweet are these jeans? It turned out so well; I am super chuffed. You can customize the letters, message, and even the color thread to your liking. You can opt for a pop of color by using a bright red or pink thread; I wanted something really subtle, so I chose black. Remember, the stage is all yours! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that you took some inspiration from it so that you can recreate the same for your next DIY jeans project.

Old school hippie jeans! Lol. When I use to embroider mine. When my 4 year old daughter came to me (early 80s) and wanted "name brand" jeans, I told her the only name on her butt was going a be hers! So I embroidered her name with flowers and peace signs. No one else had her " name brand " she still remembers all these years later!
