I love to make unusual and unique jewelry from old things around the home. In the past, I have made some personalized map necklaces out of eyeglasses. This time I have used upcycled scraps from old sweaters to make a pretty heart-shaped brooch.

All that you need for this cute project is some wool scraps from old sweaters. I keep the leftover scraps from other upcycles. You also need is a wooden heart shape that is easily bought online and some brooch pin.

First, cut the sweater scraps into small strips. Use a pair of pinking shears to create a crinkled edge on one length of the sweater.

I cut a lot of strips in a variety of colors.

Apply some glue along the bottom edge of one of the strips.

Then roll the strip up tightly and hold it in place with a pin until the glue dries.

Carry one making lots of these mini roses in a variety of colors.

Next starting in the middle, glue the flowers one by one until the whole of the wooden heart is covered.

To finish off glue a brooch pin to the back of the wooden heart.

I made two of these brooches in two sizes big and small.

I think these brooches would make a lovely gift. Visit my blog for more details and photos on this craft.

I have also made some cute balls out of old sweaters that can be used to make a fabulous necklace.
