Easy Hair Tutorial: How to Create a Gorgeous 6-strand Braid
It’s time to take your hair braids to the next level!
In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to do a 6-strand braid. I’ll be illustrating the technique using strands of fabric as I find that this is the best way to demonstrate how to do the braid.
Grab some fabric strands and follow along!

Tools and materials:
- Ribbon or string
- Hair tie
1. Separate strands
Start by sticking the top of the fabric strands to a flat surface and then separate them into two equal sections.
2. Weave outside strand
Grab the outside strand of one of the sections. Then weave it inwards, over, then under.
3. Bring to other side
Add that strand to the other section.
4. Repeat on other side
Now grab the outside strand of the other section and weave it inwards - under, over, and then under.
Then add that strand to the other section.
5. Repeat
Continue to repeat this process, taking the outer strand from the opposite section, weaving it inwards, and then adding it to the other section.
6. Pull on strands
As you go, pull on each strand to tighten it. Also, flatten the braid to make it wider.
This is what the braid will look like.
Now it’s time to do the same process but this time on your hair!
7. Separate hair
Start by separating six pieces of hair into two equal sections.
8. Weave hair
Grab the outside piece of one section, then weave inwards - over, then under and then add it to the other section.
9. Repeat
Repeat the whole process, as we did before with the fabric strands.
10. Tighten
Ensure that you hold each piece separately and you pull on them to tighten them.
6-strand braid
Here is the finished 6-strand braid. I love how intricate it looks with all of the different strands.
If you find it a bit difficult the first time you do it, I encourage you to persevere because practice makes perfect, and once you get the hang of it, it’s very straightforward.
