DIY Hair Scrunchies in Just 20 Minutes!
Let's get back to basics! Who doesn't love a classic scrunchie? It's beautiful, chic, and cute altogether. While you can purchase basic scrunchies from the store, you can make some DIY hair scrunchies yourself in just 20 minutes. The best part is that you get to choose the fabric and really make the color and style match your outfit. Talk about customizable, huh? If you want to know how to make hair scrunchies, then this is the perfect tutorial for you with minimal materials required. Time starts… now!
Tools and materials:
- Elastic
- Fabric strip
- Measuring tape
- Needle
- Thread
- Sewing machine
- Safety pin
Cut your fabric and elastic
Cut a piece of fabric 20 inches in length and 5 inches wide. Next, cut your elastic; either wrap it around your wrist and cut or measure around 7 inches.
Fold, pin, and sew
Fold your fabric strip so that the wrong sides are facing up. Pin the edges in place and sew. Create a neat fold on one edge, as shown. Don't sew the sides.
Turn inside out and press
Turn the strip inside out with the help of a safety pin. Attach the safety pin on one side and fold it inside out, pulling the safety pin from the other end. It's quite a long strip, so a safety pin will really help get the job done quickly.
Press the fabric strip.
Insert the elastic
Again, use your handy safety pin and pin it to the end of the elastic and insert it through the fabric strip. The elastic is much shorter than the fabric strip, and this is exactly how you achieve the scrunchie, ruffle look. When inserting the elastic through, scrunch up and gather the fabric strips, and voila! You have the scrunchie look.
Assemble everything
Once the elastic is inserted, stitch the ends. Then, take one side of the fabric's edge and fold it under the other side and stitch along the line.
Now you know how to make hair scrunchies! Look at this lovely hair scrunchie! So easy, so quick, so cool! I opted for a beautiful African-inspired print, but you are welcome to use any fabric, color, or print of your choice. I recommend making a bunch of these, so you have DIY hair scrunchies to match every outfit.
