DIY Hat

A straw hat is going to be the protagonist on today's DIY project. Not just a garment for summer, also ideal for autumn, depending on the colours you add to it. I've decided to use blue, but using some burdundy or brown shades, it can be a perfect accessory for this season. This is an ideal project to upcyle those hats that are sometimes offered as merchandising of events and we never wear. Just a simple makeover will be necessary to give another life to them. Ready?

Materials: Scissors, masking tape, brush/es, acrylic paint.

Using the scissors, remove the ribbon around the hat, cutting carefully the thread. Put masking tape in the place where the ribbon was to create a separation between the two parts of the hat: the brim and the crown.

Use acrylic paint and a brush to cover the brim, and then, another colour to cover the crown. I used two different shades of blue. As the hat is made of straw, there are little holes on it, so the paint stains the botton of the crown. Paint this part two for a better result.

The last thing to do is removing the masking tape and add some colour to this part of the hat. Do some lines of paint with a thin brush for a cool touch. I used mustard colour because I love how it matches with blues. Do you like the result?
