2 Simple Knots to Turn Your Scarf Into a Kimono

Here, I’m going to show you how you can turn a scarf into a kimono with two simple knots.


To say this DIY kimono tutorial is simple would be an understatement. Let me show you what you need to do.

Tools and materials:

  • Rectangular scarf
  • Strap
Putting scarf on

1. Put scarf on

Place the scarf on lengthways over your shoulders as follows.

2. Tie knots

Take the corner of the scarf that’s drooped over your shoulders, together with some of the fabric from under your arm, and tie the two pieces together in a knot.

3. Repeat

Repeat on the other side.

4. Tie strap

Now take a thin strap of some sort (it could even be a shoelace if it’s long enough), insert it through either hole and tie it together.


This will ensure that the kimono stays on you and isn’t slipping off your shoulders.

Here is the finished look. You can now enjoy your beautiful scarf as a kimono jacket. Wearing it like this allows you to really show off the gorgeous print.
