3 Ways to Style Small Handkerchief Scarf

Follow along with me to learn 3 ways to style a silk handkerchief scarf. These styles are the perfect finishing touch to an outfit.

Tools and materials:

  • Square silk scarf (about 20” x 20”)
  • Hair tie
  • 2 strand pearl necklace
Style 1: Silk flower

1. Make a triangle

Fold the scarf in half to make a triangle.


2. Bunch one side

Grab the corner opposite the long side of the triangle and begin bunching the fabric, like an accordian from that point.

3. Secure with a hair tie

Wrap the ends with a hair tie.

4. Place the scarf and insert the end

Put the scarf around your neck and insert the loose tail into the hair tie on the other side.

Pull the end all the way though.

5. Finishing touches

Pull gently at the sides of what will end up looking like a flower to fluff it out. Here’s the final look:

1. Fold a triangle and tie

Fold the scarf in half to make a triangle. Then tie the 2 far corners with a small tail after the knot.

2. Make a smaller triangle

Pull one corner through the opening under the knot to meet the other corner.

Then hold them together and take them back to create this sleek triangle.

3. Twist twice

Hold the knot around your wrist. Then grab the loose corners and twist one around the other twice.

4. Tuck and pull 

Tuck one end under the knot to the other side. Then pull each of the ends.

Place the florette on your neck, off center and tie the ends in the back.

1. Thread the scarf through a pearl necklace

Hold your scarf like a strip of fabric and place a pearl necklace at the center.

2. Place scarf and tie it

Place the scarf/pearls behind your neck.

Pull one tail of the scarf through the necklace.
