Do you have a special occasion that is calling for a maxi skirt, but you don’t have one in your closet?

Try this clever DIY maxi skirt that you can fashion from one large scarf, without sacrificing your scarf!

Tools and materials:

  • Large scarf (equal to length you want your skirt)
  • Large hair elastic
Wrapping scarf

1. Wrap your scarf

Wrap your large scarf around your waist from the back to the front.

Pleating front

2. Pleat the front

Holding the front top corners together, fold the fabric from the front of your skirt back and forth, like a fan, until you’ve fanned all of the excess front fabric.

Securing

3. Secure the top front

Gather the top of the pleated front into a ball, and use a thick hair elastic to secure the ball.

Fanning out ball

4. Fan out the ball

Gently pull the edges of the ball to fan it out so it looks like a large flower.

Add some strappy sandals and a matching handbag, and you’ve turned your scarf into a maxi dress ensemble!

When you’re done wearing your new maxi dress, your scarf is still completely intact. Now that’s a great multipurpose scarf hack!
