Born to be wild and born to have style, that’s what this project is all about! Bandana headbands are great for all those times you want to wear something on your head but don’t feel like putting a hat on.

This project also comes in handy to use up all the leftover fabric you don’t want to throw out.

And you can finish it quickly, so you can do it in those short breaks you get during the day between chores and work.

Prepare the fabric

Measure your head circumference first. Subtract 4 from that and you will get the fabric length. The width depends on which size bandana you'd prefer. There are 5 different sizes, starting with the kids’ size that’s from 8 to 10 inches, and ending with the large size that’s 12 inches.

Cut out a piece of fabric in the measurements you got. Cut one small strip in 8 x 2.75 inches dimensions. The last piece of material you will need is an elastic strip measuring 1 x 4.5 inches in size.

Sew the elastic

Fold the fabric strip in half so the long edges meet and the right side is in. Stitch the long raw edge with a quarter-inch allowance.

Turn the tube and insert the elastic into it. Align the short ends of the elastic with the short ends of the tubing and stitch them with the same allowance as before.

Finish the bandana

Turn the main fabric so the wrong side is up. Fold the long edges in for a quarter-inch twice, press and stitch them. Flip the fabric.

Place the elastic near the bottom-right corner of the fabric. Fold the bottom edge over it, then the top edge over both layers, aligning it with the bottom fold.

Place the elastic near the bottom-right corner of the fabric. Fold the bottom edge over it, then the top edge over both layers, aligning it with the bottom fold.

Make pleats on the inside from the top to the elastic until you use up all of the fabric, then pin the layers on the right edge of the elastic.

Bring the left edge of the elastic to the bottom-left corner of the main fabric and repeat the process.

Stitch each short edge of the elastic through all layers. Do it a few times to create a durable seam.

Turn the bandana and you can go ahead and wear it!

This headband is for everyone, kids, adults, men, women, all who like that cool biker or rockstar look. Make one for all members of your household, put on some shades, and be the most awesome group at the next family gathering event!
