How to Wear a Russian Orenburg Shawl as a Large Scarf
Here, I’m going to give you some ideas for how you can wear a traditional Russian Orenburg shawl as a neck scarf.
If you want to know how to wear a large scarf, this is for you!
This tutorial is very close to my heart because I’ll be styling my grandmother’s Orenburg shawl, which took more than 100 hours to make.
Style 1: Worn over shoulders
The first style is the most common. Just fold your scarf in a triangle and place it over your shoulders.
I think this looks very graceful and elegant.
A little trick you can do is to add a belt to fix your scarf in place.
I think it looks more interesting this way. I also really like the contrast of the light cream shawl against my black top and the dark belt.
I also like to fold the top of the shawl outward to create a collar. It looks compelling and has a lovely shape.
Style 2: Wrapped around
1. Pull to side
For the second style, just pull the scarf over to the side so it sits on your shoulders asymmetrically.
2. Wrap the scarf
Then wrap the material from the longer side over your other shoulder.
3. Fix in place
Fix the scarf in place with a pin or make a knot.
Style 3: Bib style
1. Shorten triangle
For this look, fold the triangle over a few times at the top to make it shorter.
2. Cross over
Place it in front of your neck and cross the ends at the back.
You can either leave the ends hanging down like this.
Alternatively, you can tie the two ends together and tuck them under the triangle at the front.
This style will keep your neck very warm and looks fabulous with a classic coat.
Style 4: Accordion style
1. Fold the scarf
For the next two styles, fold the scarf as an accordion
2. Tie a knot
Place the scarf around your neck and tie a knot.
Fan out the ends, and you have a beautiful accordion-style scarf.
You can either wear this scarf at the front or on the side - both ways look equally as stylish.
Style 5: Twisted
1. Make a knot
Fold the scarf and place it around your neck. Then make a knot with one end much longer than the other.
2. Twist the scarf
Twist the long end of the scarf around the other.
Bring the ends of the scarf together, and here is the finished look.
