Want to make your boring collared shirts more stylish, or maybe just add a splash of color to them?

I’m going to show you a simple DIY you can do to upgrade any collar, so you can make business casual just a little bit more interesting. Let’s get started.

Tools and materials:

  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Beads
Poking needle through shirt

1. Poke your needle through your shirt

Pick where you want your design to start and push the needle through the fabric.

Adding beads

2. Add the beads to the needle

An easy hack to get beads on your collar without having to worry about threading your string is to slide the bead on the needle instead.

3. Sew the bead to the collar

Pull your needle all the way through the fabric and then back through the hole to attach the bead to the collar.

Bunching beads together

4. Bunch the beads together

The design I’m making is a grape.

To achieve this look, you want to bunch several purple beads together.

To attach the beads together, slide the needle through the initial bead and add a second one. This way, they bunch easier.

Embroidering a leaf

5. Embroider a leaf

To finish the design, embroider a small leaf at the top of the bunched beads.

Repeat for both sides and you’re done!

You can do this hack with any design you like. It’s so simple and can instantly elevate any collar you have.
