I've made the greatest shirt in gorgeous fabric, and I'm here today to show you how to make one just the same and how to style it up two ways, one super smart for a work day, and a casual outfit, wearing the shirt as a cover up, with a vest top and jeans for a day with friends!!

The shirt pattern is the Melilot shirt, from Deer and Doe which you can find here Deer and Doe Paper Sewing Pattern Melilot Shirt | 1071840 | Minerva and the fabric is a delightful rayon challis by Art Gallery fabrics which you can grab here > Art Gallery Fabrics Lugu Rayon Challis Fabric Lumina Twilight | 1189033 | Minerva if you're inspired to make one just the same?

Here's a up close look at the completed make, before I show you how I made it!!

So, here we go all the pattern pieces are laid out on my folded fabric so we're either cutting two of each or cut on the fold, which is how the back piece is cut!

Next we're going to add the bust darts in the two front shirt pieces, and then double fold, press and stitch at the edge where the buttons and buttonholes go.

Next the two front pieces and the back of the shirt is hemmed, which is unusual for shirt construction, but it works surprisingly well!

Now lets sew the shoulder seams, joining the back of the shirt to the two fronts.

Okay, so we're making great progress, we now need to stitch the sleeves on to the shirt, with right sides together lets pin and sew the top of the sleeve to the arm hole.

The sleeves are now attached and we are going to sew the arm and side seam in one go.

Just the cuffs to attach

And then the collar and we're all done and ready to style up our new make!!

Ta-da all done, here I'm styling our new shirt with some cool jeans and over a tank for a casual, comfy look, the shirt makes a great layering piece worn like this!!

But, I also love how it looks dressed up, its very smart with my classic black trousers, ready for work. But, I also think its interesting and not boring for a lovely work wear look. Which is your fav styling??
